"The Science Behind Acupuncture: How Does It Really Work?"

Recently I've had a couple patients or their family members that are present for the session ask me...

How does Acupuncture work?

So I thought about how I can best answer it in a new and fun way, so here's my best attempt at describing it via balance, point stimulation and blood circulation.

First.... Balancing the Flow of Qi: At the heart of acupuncture lies the concept of Qi, or vital energy, which flows through pathways in the body known as meridians. According to traditional Chinese medicine, disruptions or imbalances in the flow of Qi can manifest as pain, illness, or emotional distress. Acupuncture aims to restore harmony and balance by stimulating specific points along the meridians, thereby promoting the smooth flow of Qi throughout the body. By addressing the root cause of imbalances, acupuncture offers a holistic approach to healing that goes beyond merely treating symptoms.

It also works by.... Stimulating Acupuncture Points: Acupuncture points are carefully selected based on an individual's unique presentation.... These points are located along the meridians and correspond to specific organs and point functions. By inserting thin needles into these points, acupuncturists can stimulate the body's natural healing response, triggering the release of endorphins, neurotransmitters, and other biochemical substances that promote pain relief, relaxation, and overall well-being.

It especially works by... Improving Blood Circulation: In addition to balancing Qi, acupuncture also plays a key role in improving blood circulation throughout the body. Enhanced blood flow delivers oxygen and nutrients to tissues, promotes the removal of toxins and metabolic waste products, and supports the body's natural healing processes.

Acupuncture is a conservative treatment that can help your unique symptoms through direct treatment of the ROOT of the problem, rather than treating the symptoms like most medications do. By balancing the flow of Qi, stimulating acupuncture points, and improving blood circulation, acupuncture addresses the root cause of health issues and promotes true holistic wellness.
